Training
Sensus currently offers the following on-site training courses:
Introduction to SensusAccess – A comprehensive workshop for staff, students, and faculty. With a combination of theory and hands-on exercises, participants are trained in using the SensusAccess service to convert documents into a variety of alternate formats including MP3 audio files, DAISY structured audio books, e-books, and digital Braille-books. Participants also learn how to convert inaccessible documents or documents in tricky formats into more accessible formats. Finally, participants learn best practices when preparing and authoring documents that can be used by print-impaired students. Duration: 5 hours.
Creating accessible documents – A hands-on workshop for staff, students and faculty that introduces participants to the principles of digital accessibility and universal design. Participants learn how to author accessible documents using popular office-software, and how to create PDF documents that comply with the digital accessibility requirements. Duration: 3 hours.
Creating e-books with SensusAccess – A hands-on workshop for alternate media specialists and others on creating e-books with the SensusAccess service. Participants learn about different e-book formats and e-book readers, and how the reflowable e-book formats can be used to create customized digital contents and digital large-print for the benefit of people with low vision and dyslexia. Participants also learn how to convert documents with complex media contents such as mathematical equations into e-books. Duration: 3 hours.
Creating structured audio books with SensusAccess – A hands-on workshop for alternate media specialists and others on creating structured audio books in DAISY and EPUB3 format. Participants learn about DAISY and DAISY readers as well as EPUB e-books with media overlays. Participants also learn how to author documents in order to get the best results from the SensusAccess service, including how to author documents containing complex media contents such as mathematical equations. Duration: 3 hours.
Producing Braille with SensusAccess – A practical workshop for alternate media specialists and others on producing Braille material with the SensusAccess service. Participants learn about the different Braille output formats, and how to select the correct formats to support specific Braille displays and Braille embossers. Participants also learn how to install, configure and use a Braille embossing environment based on the free Portable Embosser Format (PEF). Duration: 2 hours.
Producing math material with SensusAccess – A hands-on workshop for alternate media specialists and others on producing material with mathematical contents in alternate formats using SensusAccess. Participants learn how to set up a math authoring environment based on Microsoft Office. Participants also learn how to convert material with mathematical contents into DAISY Talking books and e-books. Duration: 2 hours.

Media services
